"Where the spirit of Sharing and Caring lives in every member."

As members of ESA, we’ve been joining our collective skills to make the world a better place since 1929, volunteering more than 860,000 hours annually. In communities large and small in the U.S., Australia, and Canada, we create and manage hands-on volunteer activities and charitable fundraising events for large international charities and local worthy causes alike. Here are a few we support in Colorado.

2025-2026

Colorado State Council President's Project

Colorado State Council President, Lori Anderson-Havelick, has chosen the Operation Gratitude as her philanthropic project for 2025-2026.

"Operation Gratitude began in 2003, when our founder, Carolyn Blashek, met a soldier who felt forgotten. From her living room, she mailed four Care Packages to deployed troops in Iraq. In the 20 years since, tens of thousands of Volunteers have delivered more than four million Care Packages, each one filled with donated products, handmade items, and heartfelt letters. These packages were more than supplies—they were tangible reminders that Americans care. Today, Operation Gratitude is one of the largest hands-on volunteer nonprofits in the country, demonstrating the power of grassroots participation in expressing national gratitude."

In support of this program, Lori  recommends participating in their care packages to the troops segment.  Details may be obtained at:

Colorado State Council continues to support The Honor Bell Foundation.

In 2014, a team of veterans worked together to cast the first Honor Bell which serves Fort Logan National Cemetery.  The motto of this bell is "Forged from Honor" and the casting includes mementos from 12  deceased Colorado service members from World War II to the Global War on Terror.  The bell is tolled at veteran's services as requested.

The fundraising drive to provide a second bell  for the Pikes Peak National Cemetery has begun.  Susan encourages chapters as well as individuals to donate to this worthy cause.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

In 1972, ESA officially recognized St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (the largest center for treatment and research of pediatric cancer and other childhood catastrophic diseases in the U.S.) as a national project.  As a result of ESA's enthusiastic response to a heartfelt personal appeal by the hospital's founder, Danny Thomas, the hospital became ESA's first internationally supported charity.  ESA has raised more than $290 million for the hospital and continues to help realize Danny's dream that "no child shall die in the dawn of life."

ESA's support for military personnel and their families began during World War II.  After the war, ESA chapters were often organized near military bases and among military families whose membership assisted them in keeping connected as they moved to new assignments around the world.  Much of ESA's early international growth was a result of military members forming new chapter as they moved to new bases.
